So you want to join our Sixth Form?
Once students begin considering Tarporley Sixth Form College as their destination, we endeavour to make the transition from Key Stage 4 to 5 as smooth as possible, whilst also emphasising that A Levels are a challenging academic route. Many of our students stay with us after their GCSEs so excellent relationships with staff are already established, but our transition process also allows students from other schools to integrate well. We want all of our students to begin their studies feeling prepared for the fun, friendships and rigour which Sixth Form brings.
Open Evening - October
Our Open Evening allows parents and students to hear from the Director of Sixth Form, Mr Nuttall, and learn about the ethos and sense of community which we aim to create in College. It is a chance to celebrate our academic successes, our excellent UCAS and university entry process and also the pastoral support we offer our students. Parents and prospective students also have the chance to visit subject areas, speak to teachers and subject specialists, directed by our very own team of student ambassadors. Our Sixth Formers are role models to the younger years and superb representatives for our school.
These days allow students to experience their prospective A Level subjects first-hand. Teachers plan lively and realistic lessons so students know what to expect and find out if their subject choices are the right ones for them. The final taster day in the summer term culminates in a social event where students and staff go for a meal to relax and to build excitement for the forthcoming two years of adventures and new challenges!
Sixth Form Information Evening
Students meet more personally with subject staff, discussing the specifications and the syllabus of each A Level choice in more depth. It is the chance to ask more personal questions and receive bespoke, individual advice.
Year 11 Individual Sixth Form Interviews - January
These take place in January with either Mr Nuttall or Mrs Everton. Formal interviews provide our Y11s with an opportunity to discuss in depth their options at A-level, as we recognise the importance of choosing the right A-levels for the right reasons. Our aim is for all Sixth Formers to be fully engaged and passionate about their subjects and this will only happen if they make choices that are appropriate for them.
Registration for Sixth Form
Students send in applications for Sixth Form College, with their proposed A Level subject choices. These applications are formalised on GCSE Results Day where students officially sign up to join our team.
Conway Residential – September
All our Sixth Form students go to the Conway Residential Centre where we embark on outdoor teamwork activities, public speaking challenges, creative projects, sporty and fun collaborative tasks. The teams are split into new tutor groups, so that bonds and new friendships are made. Practical tips for managing A Levels are also provided, leaving our students excited and prepared for the two years ahead.
