So you want to join our Sixth Form?
Once students begin considering Tarporley Sixth Form College as their destination, we endeavour to make the transition from Key Stage 4 to 5 as smooth as possible, whilst also emphasising that A-levels are a challenging academic route. Many of our students choose to stay with us after their GCSEs so excellent relationships with staff are already established, but our transition process also allows students from other schools to integrate well. We want all of our students to begin their studies feeling prepared for the fun, friendships and rigour which Sixth Form College brings.
Please contact us at any stage during the year if you are interested in joining Tarporley Sixth Form College. We welcome applications and enquiries from students from other schools. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org for more details of how to apply. External students are welcome at both our Open Evening and Information Evening events. Please contact us if you would like an invitation with further details.
Open Evening – October 18th 2018
Our Open Evening in October allows parents and students to hear from the Director of Sixth Form, Mr Nuttall and learn about the ethos and sense of community which we aim to create in College. It is a chance to celebrate our academic successes, our excellent UCAS and university entry process and also the pastoral support we offer our students. Parents and prospective students also have the chance to visit subject areas, speak to teachers and subject specialists accompanied by our very own team of student ambassadors who can also answer questions on the Sixth Form student experience. Our Sixth Formers are role models to the younger years and superb representatives for our school.
Sixth Form Information Evening – February 14th 2019
At our Sixth Form Information Evening in February, students and parents are able to meet more personally with Heads of Department and subject staff to discuss the specifications and syllabus of each A-level choice in more depth. This evening provides the opportunity to ask more individual questions and receive bespoke, individual advice tailored to individual requirements. The Sixth Form team will also be available to discuss specific needs in relation to university courses and more general enquiries.
Taster Day – July 2019
In July (date to be arranged) we have a day dedicated to taster lessons across the subjects which allows students to experience their prospective A-level subjects first-hand. Teachers plan lively and realistic lessons so students know what to expect and find out if their subject choices are the right ones for them!
Tarporley Individual Sixth Form Interviews – January 2019
Individual Year 11 Sixth Form interviews take place in January with either Mr Nuttall, Mrs Everton or a member of the Sixth Form team. Formal interviews provide our Year 11 students with an opportunity to discuss in depth their options at A-level, as we recognise the importance of choosing the right A-levels for the right reasons. Our aim is for all Sixth Form College students to be fully engaged and passionate about their subjects and this will only happen if they make choices that are appropriate for them.
Registration for Sixth Form College – August 22nd 2019
Students should send in applications for Sixth Form College with their proposed A-level subject choices following interviews (for Tarporley Year 11 students). External students can send in their application forms following the A-level Information Evening in February which is when option blocks are made available to ensure that choices are compatible with the timetable framework. Conway induction Residential – September
At the beginning of the new term our Sixth Form Team takes the Year 12 Sixth Form College students to the Conway Residential Centre for a three day induction where we enjoy outdoor teamwork activities, public speaking challenges, creative projects, sporty and fun collaborative tasks.
