Vision

Dance at GCSE provides a challenging and exciting programme of study that raises aspirations for developing practical and theoretical skills, understanding Dance and its place in a modern society.

It’s a dynamic and enjoyable course that provides an extensive anthology of practical repertoire and opportunities for students to develop their performance and choreographing skills, which will stimulate student learning.

If you are passionate about Dance and developing your skills through Performance, Choreography and Appreciation, then this course will provide you with the knowledge and creativity that you will desire to achieve and become more confident creators of Dance.

What you can expect studying Dance at Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College

At Key Stage 3, it is advisable to join the after School Dance Academy with Mrs Roberts-Williams which will provide you with the basic skills to develop the three main areas of study at GCSE.

Performance opportunities will include:

  • The School Production
  • The Summer Festival
  • Cheshire Dance Shows

Dance at KS3 will also be taught through some of the PE Curriculum

Key Stage 4 – GCSE Curriculum

The AQA GCSE Dance course is delivered through the teaching of six anthologies that will be practically and theoretically explored through Performance, Choreography and Appreciation.

Year 10 has been designed to teach the six anthologies and the set phrases, meaning there will be a heavy emphasis on developing practical skills and technique, as well as knowledge of the different anthologies.

Year 11 will begin with the Choreography Component, followed by Performance and the written Appreciation exam.

How we assess at KS4

Throughout Year 10, students will be assessed on their progression of the skills they’re learning each half term, three main assessments being in the 3 main areas, every full term.

In Year 11, the components are assessed using the set criteria:

  • Performance – 30%
  • Choreography – 30%
  • Appreciation – 40%
