Year 7 Foreign Language

Spelling Bee 2019

North West Regional Final

On Thursday 28th March, three of our Year 7 students (Tilly Green, Sasha Beardsmore and Daisy Gibson) travelled to Trinity Church of England School in Manchester to compete in the North West Regional Final of the Routes into Languages Spelling Bee 2019.

Due to the sheer number of students taking part in the competition from schools right across the North West, all competitors were divided into groups of around 15 students upon arrival for the First Round, to determine the top four spellers that would then move on to the second round, to compete for a place in the National Final.

During this First Round, contestants had one minute to accurately say and spell out as many French or Spanish words as they could in target language and from memory.

Not only did our students have to learn 150 words in preparation for the competition, but they also had to compete in front of a panel of native speaker judges and verifiers in a classroom full of spectators! Our three students from Tarporley rose to the challenge and performed extremely well! Tilly Green and Sasha Beardsmore got first place and third place respectively for Spanish and will be heading to Cambridge in July for the National Finals!

Tilly, Sasha and Daisy should be extremely proud of their achievements!

We certainly are!

                                                    The Tarporley High production

has thrilled everyone this week.

Congratulations to all taking part and supporting

Friday is sold out already!

Tickets are available, preferably from our website, but also from Student Services.

We are very pleased to invite you to the Tarporley Sixth Form College Open Evening on Thursday 18th October from 6.30 pm.  The aim of this evening is to introduce prospective students and parents to our College and to explain what we can offer both academically and socially.  We feel confident that Tarporley Sixth Form College offers excellent opportunities for academic achievement and for the personal and social development of our students, as demonstrated by consistently strong exam performance and successful progression to university, college or the workplace.

Y 13 student, Suki Le Hunte, received the ‘Young Person Equality and Diversity Champion’ award at the West Cheshire and Youth Community Awards ceremony at Forest Hills, Frodsham on Thursday evening. The award was aimed at an individual who has overcome a  barrier and who promotes diversity; someone who challenges inequality, promotes rights and is one to watch in terms of empowering others.

It was a wonderful event which brought together many amazing and talented young people and volunteers from all over Cheshire West. Suki was thrilled with the nomination and award and said that he could never have achieved all that he has without the support and encouragement received from Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College.
