On Thursday 26 April, three Year 7 students travelled to Trinity Church of England School in Manchester to compete in the North West Regional Final of the Routes into Languages Spelling Bee 2018.
Due to the sheer number of students taking part in the competition from schools right across the North West, all competitors were divided into groups of around 15 students upon arrival for the First Round, to determine the top four spellers that would then move on to the second round, to compete for a place in the National Final.
During this First Round, contestants had one minute to accurately say and spell out as many French or Spanish words as they could in target language and from memory.
Not only did our students have to learn 150 words in preparation for the competition, but they also had to compete in front of a panel of native speaker judges and verifiers in a classroom full of spectators! This was a daunting prospect for all contestants, but our three students from Tarporley rose to the challenge and performed extremely well, impressing their audience!
They should be extremely proud of their achievements!
We certainly are!
