Tarporley High School
& Sixth Form College

Open Evening

Year 6 Open Evening, Thursday 23rd September 2021

Due to the current situation, we have reviewed what is possible for our Open Evening. Ordinarily on Open Evening, students and parents/carers would attend a presentation in the school hall and then visit the subject areas in the school, meeting staff and students and interacting with the various subjects. Reviewing this, we are concerned of the potential such a set up could have on the transmission of Covid-19.

We understand the importance of you and your child having an opportunity to visit the school. Therefore, we will hold the evening but with the following adjustments to minimise numbers in school at any one time and therefore contacts between visitors and staff and students in school:

  • The evening will run from 4.30-7.30pm
  • There won’t be a presentation in the school hall (this will be available on-line).
  • You can attend the school with your child in one of three slots:
    • 4.30-5.30
    • 5.30-6.30
    • 6.30-7.30
  • During this time, you can tour the school independently and visit the various subject areas and ask questions of staff. You can, if you wish, book a guided tour with one of our Sixth Form students.
  • We would ask you to take a lateral flow test ahead of attending the school.
  • We recommend you wear a face covering whilst inside the school building.

If you do wish to attend, please could you email the school using the dedicated email address:  with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Time slot:4.30 / 5.30 / 6.30
  • Organised tour of the school: Y/N

If you would like to speak to our SENCO Miss Shaw, please call the school on 01829 732558 to book an appointment.

Although we are doing all we can to maximise space for cars, we are still mindful that parking on the school site is limited. If our site is full, you may be able to find a parking space in the public car park adjacent to the Community Centre on the High Street. It will be open until 10pm. There is also a larger public car park further up the High Street behind the Rising Sun public house.

On arrival, please enter the school building through our main entrance where a map of the school and a school prospectus will be available.

Additionally, and for those of you who are unable to attend, there is a virtual open evening which will allow you to hear from some of the staff in the school and get an insight on what you can expect should you choose to send your child here next year.

From Thursday 23rd September there will be an area on the admissions section of the school’s website:  where you will be able to see:

  • A school prospectus.
  • Information about exam results.
  • A PowerPoint which gives some key information about the school which I will talk through. This also includes details about the application process.
  • A virtual tour of the school with our Head Students.
  • Narrated PowerPoints from Subject Leaders for all subjects studied in Year 7.

Going forward, I hope that we will be able to welcome you and the students in to the school later in the academic year with fewer restrictions. It may be that we can also hold our Year 6 into Year 7 residential at the Conway Centre in the summer term but these are dependent on the situation at that time. Meanwhile, if you have further enquiries regarding the transition and admissions process, please contact Miss Blackhurst the school’s Transition Lead at

Kind regards
