Remote Learning

REMOTE LEARNING in the event of SCHOOL CLOSURE

There are very occasionally extreme circumstances that means the school is closed to students.  As a school, we aim such a decision before 7.15am for weather incidents.  Other notice may come sooner depending on the matter at hand.  Historically, we have always achieved this but it could be later.  We notify families via text and email using the school communications channel.  This is the only channel we publish this information on.

There is an expectation for any closure that schools provide a remote learning offer.  This is not expected to be “live lessons” synchronous with the timetable.  Instead, schools are also expected to offer tasks that are manageable for students to access remotely.

All work will be set in Edulink.  It is very important that students can access Edulink and it will also be useful to access Microsoft365 where they can email teachers if they have queries or want to seek support.  Any student that needs to update their password can do so by asking their form tutor (or any teacher) to provide a reset.  This is most likely to be needed by Key Stage 4 students who no longer routinely access Microsoft365 due to their course choices.

For Key Stage 3 classes, a task of approximately 35-40 minutes will be set.  This task will be reviewed in lessons.  It will either revise work already covered or allow students to do some preparation for learning ahead.  There may not be work set in some practical subjects e.g. PE.

For GCSE classes, students will be set an appropriate exam-style task, a revision or planning task or work on a coursework project. There will be a strong emphasis on submission (in class or via email) and there will be feedback in class following our feedback policy.

For A Level groups, any suitable work will be set with an emphasis on submission following existing expectations.

Teachers will monitor email and Edulink for student queries throughout the day.

For any closures beyond two school days, it is likely we would move to an online teaching model or hybrid attendance model and these details would be shared with students and families via the usual communication channels.

Detailed guides can be found on the ICT Support section of the website.
