Tarporley High School
& Sixth Form College

Apply to Our Sixth Form

So you want to join our Sixth Form?

Once students begin considering Tarporley Sixth Form College as their destination, we endeavour to make the transition from Key Stage 4 to 5 as smooth as possible, whilst also emphasising that A-levels are a challenging academic route. Many of our students choose to stay with us after their GCSEs so excellent relationships with staff are already established, but our transition process also allows students from other schools to integrate well. We want all of our students to begin their studies feeling prepared for the fun, friendships and rigour which Sixth Form College brings.

External Applicants

Please contact us at any stage during the year if you are interested in joining Tarporley Sixth Form College. We welcome applications and enquiries from students from other schools. Email: contact@tarporleyhigh.co.uk  for more details of how to apply. External students are welcome at both our Open Evening and Information Evening events. Please contact us if you would like an invitation with further details.

SIXTH FORM VIRTUAL OPEN EVENING – OCTOBER  2020

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, we are currently unable to invite any visitors on site at the moment. However, our Virtual Open Evening will be live on our website from Thursday 15th October 2020. Please do join us online to find out more about our Sixth Form.

We hope that there will be opportunities to join us in person later in the academic year, please save the following dates in your dairy. We will of course keep you fully informed of changes to these arrangements.

SIXTH FORM INFORMATION EVENING – 11 FEBRUARY 2021

At our Sixth Form Information Evening in February, students and parents are invited into College to meet our A Level Subject Specialists. This is a great opportunity to find out more about each course and discuss the syllabus in more depth. This evening provides plenty of opportunities to ask bespoke questions, talk to Subject Teachers and current A level Students and discuss any individual requirements you may have. The Sixth Form Leadership Team will also be on hand to answer general and more specific enquires.

A LEVEL TASTER DAYS 2021 - DATES TO BE CONFIRMED

Our A Level Taster days are hugely successful and allow students currently in Year 11 to experience a day in the Sixth Form. This includes attending lessons in their chosen A level subjects, as well as experiencing what our Sixth Form Study Centre has to offer. A further Taster Day is offered in July, allowing all prospective students to join us once again for an action-packed day in the Sixth Form.

PROSPECTIVE SIXTH FORM STUDENT INTERVIEWS – JANUARY 2021

We are passionate about ensuring that all of our students have the necessary information which will allow them to make informed choices regarding their future. Choosing the right A levels is incredibly important, which is why we formally interview each young person who applies to our Sixth Form. These interviews take place from January onwards and are undertaken by experienced members of the Sixth Form Leadership Team. It is a fantastic opportunity to discuss in greater depth the suitability of the course and any specific needs that may need to be considered.

APPLICATION PROCESS – FEBRUARY ONWARDS

Following the Sixth Form Information Evening in February, prospective Sixth Form students are invited to submit their application form via email, detailing their preferred A Level subjects. For any external applicants, who require any additional information or were unable to attend any of the information evenings, please do complete an application form and email it to the address below. A member of the Sixth Form Leadership Team will then contact you to discuss your application in more detail.

Completed applications should be emailed to contact@tarporleyhigh.co.uk.

REGISTRATION FOR SIXTH FORM COLLEGE – 19 AUGUST 2021

Once your completed application has been received and providing that you have met our provisional entry requirements, a conditional offer of a place in the Sixth Form will be confirmed. We require 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including English and Maths, as a minimum. Obviously, A Levels are incredibly rigorous and some subjects recommend Grade 7 or above in order manage course demands confidently. Formal registration will then take place on GCSE Results Day. Prospective students will have the opportunity to discuss their GCSE results with a member of the Sixth Form Leadership Team, during the morning and finalise their subject choices. If you are unavailable on this day, or if you have any concerns or questions relating to results day, please do contact us in advance so that we can make alternative arrangements or advise you accordingly.

SIXTH FORM INDUCTION CONWAY RESIDENTIAL – SEPTEMBER 2021

As part of our Sixth Form Induction Programme, students visit the Conway Centre for three days. This is a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers in the natural environment in order to explore and develop a range of essential interpersonal and leadership skills. Students participate alongside their Tutor in a range of activities from watersports to public speaking. It is also an opportunity to mix socially, form new friendships and begin their preparations for their forthcoming studies. Our students come away with some great study tips, lots of useful information and of course plenty of memories. It is a chance to set high aspirations and look forward to the exciting two years ahead.
