Careers Pathway Guidance

Pathways & Qualifications

Throughout your school career there are key moments of choice that help shape the direction your life and career will go.

GCSE Option Choices

In Year 9 you will need to choose what GCSE subjects you’re going to study for the next stage of your education journey.

There are certain subjects you HAVE to study; such as English, Maths and Science, as well as other subjects that you have a choice around.

Your choices can have an impact on your future studies and even your future career, so it’s important to make an informed decision.

Post-16 options

In Year 11 you will have a decision to make about how you are going to continue your education after your GCSE exams. This is known as your Post 16 Destination. The three main pathways students can choose from are:

  • Apprenticeships
  • Sixth Form
  • College

You also have the option to apply for the military or begin your work-based learning with a Traineeship.

Each pathway will suit a different type of learner, have different entry requirements / application processes and potentially shape your career in different ways.

This moment of choice can impact on your future learning and future career so it's important you choose the right pathway for you.
