The Drama Department

The Drama department at Tarporley is committed to delivering a rounded curriculum for all students and give them opportunities to ‘make memories’, through the extra-curricular we offer.

Each year we have our annual School Production – an opportunity for all students to take part in either the performance, technical, costume/make up, stage management or marketing/enterprise aspects of the production. It’s a whole School Production that we work towards from September – February that includes different opportunities for students. Many student’s complete sections of their Duke of Edinburgh award by participating in these shows, developing skills such as confidence, showing commitment, motivation and developing new skills.

Throughout the academic year, we also run different Drama clubs at KS3 and ‘catch up sessions’ for KS4 to develop practical skills and confidence. These sessions support students with practical drama and extend their practical knowledge. Work from these sessions is often show cased in our end of year Summer Show in July.

Throughout the year we offer theatre trips and/or digital theatre after school viewings, plus opportunities to watch GCSE/A Level exam pieces in the Drama studio, which ultimately supports their ability to analyse and evaluate theatre, while enriching their experience of different types of drama. For KS5, past pupils also come back to talk to support with exam pieces, give advice and help them with their University choices.

We are also looking into having more travelling theatre companies/practitioners coming into School to workshop with students, to again enrich different aspects of the drama course and to allow them to be taught by other professionals.
