Vision

We believe Business and education is about allowing students to explore and understand what happens in society today in the world of commerce.  We encourage students to explore enterprise and the business world through dynamic and innovative teaching methods.

What you can expect studying Business at Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College

This course is designed for students who wish to explore the conecept of business in real life situations.  The course encourages a practical approach to business in society and allows students to develop their understanding of the role of the entrepreneur in society.  Business allows students to investigate the procedure involved in setting up their own business in any context.  The subject allows students to develop their understanding of an organisation which many finds assists with their transition into employment.  In Year 13 students investigate the concept of Business strategy and the factors affecting a business, both internally and externally.

Key Stage 4 – GCSE Curriculum

At KS4, all the cohort currently study the EDEXCEL GCSE Business course.  This course covers a wide range of Business concepts including types of businesses, finance, marketing, human resource management and the wider world affecting Business.

How we assess at KS4

Students are assessed via two external examinations at the end of Year 11.  Both are worth 50% of the qualification.  Theme 1 looks at Investigating Small Businesses and Theme 2 is Building the Business.

At KS4 to track and monitor progress, students are issued with ‘Progress Books’, where all exam practice and reflection following assessments is stored.  This provides a comprehensive overview of a students’ journey through the GCSE components, and the important skills and exam techniques that are being acquired along the way.

Students are encouraged to follow our twitter page @BusinessBuzzTHS to engage fully with subject content.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

At Key Stage 4 students are invited to participate in the IFS Student investor competition and Peter Jones’ Business Tycoon competition.  A range of visits take place to see Business in action outside of the school environment.
